"Food Cherisher" Volunteer Scheme

Friends of the Earth (HK) has been promoting "Waste No Food" campaign since 2010 to bring the message of “Cherish Food, Waste No Food”. In order to successfully bring out the message to individuals and to widely deliver it with actions to society, it is not sufficient to solely rely on the limited resources of Friends of the Earth (HK) and therefore we are inviting those sharing the same mission to join us.

Many social groups and schools have formed voluntary groups under the “Waste No Food” Campaign. Not only do they promote the message of cherishing food, but also actively seek food providers’ cooperation in donating surplus food to those in need. These efforts are not only made by civil bodies or corporate, but also by schools such as Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Yuen Long) which actively participated in the campaign. The school set up a “Food Waste Reduction Group” last year, of which the members gave the vegetables collected in Tin Shui Wai Market to the elderly people in the district.

We have form a volunteer team of more than 60 members under the “Waste No Food” Campaign to promote the culture of wasting no food in society. We will provide a wide range of training and activities to the campaign embassadors, aiming to help them to generate a deep understanding of the food waste problem in Hong Kong and the related environmental issues. We hope they can then make contribution to their societies or social circles by promoting the message of “Cherish Food, Waste No Food”.
